Our Name
We are named Project Octavia in honor of visionary writer Octavia E. Butler, whose work insists that “the only lasting truth is Change”, and embrace her groundbreaking essay A Few Rules for Predicting the Future as our foundational text. Butler showed us that the future is not something that happens to us, rather it is something we shape with imagination, discipline, and persistence.
In moments of upheaval and crisis, her wisdom is especially urgent.
Crises expose the cracks in our systems, but they also open space for reimagining what can be built in their place. At Project Octavia, we see crisis not as an endpoint, but as fertile ground for planting new seeds of possibility. Our name reflects this belief: that even in uncertain times, we can adapt, organize, and sow the conditions for futures rooted in equity, justice, and collective liberation.

Our Values

Abolition
We work to dismantle systems that cause harm and to build life-affirming alternatives in their place. Abolition is not just about tearing down—it is about creating communities of care, safety, and possibility
Interdependence
No one changes the future alone. We build solidarity, share power, and foster accountability, recognizing that our destinies are intertwined.
Adaptability
Change is the only constant. We design strategies that remain rooted in equity while evolving with shifting conditions, so organizations can stay resilient in uncertain times.
Persistence
Transformation is long-term work. We honor resilience and commitment, knowing that every act of strategy, care, and resistance contributes to building the world we want.
Equity & Liberation
Every action must center justice. We ground our work in the leadership, needs, and wisdom of those most impacted by systemic oppression, knowing that collective liberation is the ultimate measure of success.
Possbility
Each seed holds the potential for new futures. We invest in people, practices, and movements that plant the groundwork for change beyond what we can imagine today.
Imagination & Discipline
Vision alone is not enough. We pair creativity with clarity, persistence, and structure—transforming bold ideas into actionable plans that move communities forward.
